Saskatchewan’s wholesale trade numbers reached new highs in October, hitting a record breaking $2.2 billion in sales and jumping 5.4 per cent (seasonally adjusted) over September 2014 according to Statistics Canada. This had Saskatchewan taking top spot among the provinces in terms of percentage growth.
On a yearly basis, wholesale trade was up 12.1 per cent (seasonally adjusted), with Saskatchewan landing in second place among the provinces and outpacing the national average of 7.5 per cent.
“Wholesale trade is one of our key economic indicators and this month’s strong numbers are proof that Saskatchewan’s economy is on the right track,” Economy Minister Bill Boyd said. “We are fortunate to have a diverse economy, therefore our wholesale trade remains strong and is a major contributor to growth and prosperity in the province.”
Saskatchewan farm products, including livestock and grain, were the industry with the largest gains in October, totalling $288.2 million (seasonally unadjusted).
