The Yorkton United FC youngsters held their wrap-up party last Tuesday on the field behind Yorkton Regional High School.
The evening was complete with fun activities and scrimmages conducted under the watchful eye of coach and organizer Mike Jakubiec.
"We're just kind of wrapping our season here," Jakubiec explains.
The Under-10 and Under-12 players were gathered together for the evening to squeeze in some extra soccer.
Despite the season having come to a close, the young soccer stars were still eager to show off their skills enjoy some fellowship.
"It's just extra soccer basically, it's kind of a fun thing for them for the end of the season," Jakubiec explains.
Of course, the young players jumped at the chance to play a few more scrimmages before school starts.
Jakubiec says that playing a lot of soccer between 10-12 is important to a child's development in the sport.
"This is where you want them to play as much soccer as possible just so that they develop (their game)."
Jakubiec attributes inexpensive field costs as one of the factors that allowed a scrimmage like this to take place.
"It's good to keep the program going," he points out.
Another positive aspect of the wind-up games is the chance for potential Yorkton United indoor players to get to know each other in anticipation for the winter season.
"Some of these kids will be playing on the team's together in the winter, so they get to meet each other. It lets them become a little more comfortable and then hopefully that will translate into a more successful season," Jakubiec says.
