The Western Major Baseball League (WMBL) Yorkton Cardinals snapped a four game losing slump last week with a their third win of the current season.
After a rain out last Monday night, the Cardinals went into Swift Current Wednesday for a two game series with the Indians. The Cardinals started with an impressive four run first inning, adding a run in each of the third and sixth frames.
Unfortunately a six run fifth combined with a run in the first and another in the sixth handed the Indians a narrow 8-6 win Wednesday night.
Cardinals starter Brock Werdel gave up eight hits in four innings on the mound for five runs, four of them earned runs.
Cardinals left-hander Max McDonald who gave up three hits for three runs was credited with the loss while Taylor MacDonnell claimed the win.
Daniel Harrison was the scoring leader for Yorkton with two hits, two runs and two RBIs in four trips to the plate.
James Green, Richard Seaton, David Hole and Kuis Sanchez each crossed home plate for a run while Ryan Meek, Jon Mihic and Kevin McLeod each had an RBI.
Thursday evening in the second game of a two game series in Swift Current the Yorkton Cardinals jumped into a 3-1 lead after two innings with a run to open the game and a pair of second inning runs only to see the Indians close the gap and go on to claim a 7-5 win over the dazed Cardinals.
Cardinals starter Sean Gavin gave up five earned runs on five hits in five innings on the mound.
T. Daggon, who gave up a pair of hits and two runs was charged with the loss.
Kevin McLeod scored two runs while Green, Meek and Mihic each added a run. Green and Elfray Abad each claimed an RBI.
Friday the Cardinals fortunes continued to wane in the first game of a two game series in Medicine Hat as the Mavericks came out swinging to down the Cards 5-1.
While both Abad and Jake Bailey each had one hit, only Daniel Harrison scored for Yorkton on an RBI by McLeod.

In the second game of the two game series, the Mavericks batters tagged Cardinals pitchers for 13 runs, including and eight run fourth inning to clinch a 13-5 win over Yorkton.
Losing pitcher Luis Lora gave up nine earned runs on nine hits in three and a third innings of work.
Mavericks winner B. Martin gave up one earned run on four hits.
Mihic scored twice for Yorkton while Green, Harrison and Landon Briscoe each scored a run. Abad knocked in a pair of runs for two RBIs while Sanchez claimed an RBI.
The Cardinals snapped their losing streak in a rain shortened home game against the visiting Saskatoon Yellow Jackets Sunday evening. The Cardinals, who jumped into a three run lead with a pair of runs in the first inning and a run in the fifth, claimed a 3-0 shutout win after five innings.
Cardinals starter N.D. Gonzalez, who allowed only three hits and one base on balls and struck out seven batters held the Yellow Jackets scoreless after five innings to claim the win.
Green, Seaton and Sanchez each scored a run while Abad and Bailey each earned an RBI to seal the win.
The win improves the Cardinals' record to 3-10 which still leaves them in the East Division basement.
