Senior Bonspiel A-Event winners the Kolybaba rink included skip Wilmer Kolybaba, third Joe Tomolak, second Alfred Bergman and lead Donna Bergman.

The Yorkton Curling Club (YCC) recently hosted the annual senior mixed bonspiel. Event coordinator Karen Thies says the 50 plus bonspiel attracted 26 teams from Langenburg, Churchbridge, Saltcoats, Grayson, Melville, and Willowbrook as well as fourteen local teams.

The local teams were set up by a draw. "We just throw the names in the hat and draw. Once in awhile we have to move somebody from second to third," Thies explains. As a result Yorkton curlers don't know who they're curling with until they take to the ice. This way, she points out, people who aren't on a regular team can take part in the bonspiel.

Normally there are 15 teams in the YCC senior league and there were 14 in the bonspiel which Thies thinks is pretty good.

The teams from out of town simply enter their team, Thies notes. All teams required at least one lady on the team, she points out.

The bonspiel featured four events.

The seniors follow a circuit, Thies says. They start in Churchbridge the the first week in January. They move to Langenburg, Yorkton and Saltcoats. "
