The Yorkton Minor Hockey (YMH) Bantams hosted an eight team Tier 2 tournament over the weekend.
Tournament coordinator Larry Kitchen says participating teams included team two Yorkton Teams, the Yorkton Quizno's Terriers, Yorkton D.R. Auto Extras Terriers, two teams from Saskatoon, Radville, Regina, Melfort and Gravelburg.
Kitchen says the tournament went over well. All games were competitive and received a good response from both fans and players.
The annual midseason event featured a skills competition Saturday organized by Highway 10 Hockey School and sponsored by the Cornerstone Credit Union, Kitchen reports.
LDM Foods offered player of the game awards and a hat for every player. "They were our major sponsor along with D.R. Auto Extras," Kitchen notes.
Yorkton players standouts were Justin Poirer for the D.R. Auto Extras Bantams and Jayden Porte was one of the stronger players with the Yorkton Quizno's Bantam Terriers.
Kitchen thanks all the parent volunteers for their efforts throughout the weekend and all the business for their support.
He recognizes the work of the tournament committe which was made up of Kitchen, Jody Doll, Tim Perepeluk, Kathy Poirer and Corvyn Neufeld.
Kitchen says the bantams could have hosted a 16 team tournament but accommodation and facilities might have been a little tight. There was interest from other Saskatoon teams, Winnipeg and Prince Albert. "It's a well run tournament which has been going on for the last couple of years," he closes.
The Melfort Mustangs claimed the tournament championship by winning the A-side over the runners up Saskatoon Renegades 4-1.
The B-side title went to the Saskatoon Wild Outlaws who won the B final 5-1 over runners-up Gravelbourg.
C-side winners were the Yorkton D.R. Auto Extras Terriers who edged out runners-up Yorkton Quizno's Terriers 6-4 in the C final.
The Regina Rookies claimed the D-side title over Radville by a score of 5-3.
