YORKTON PEEWEE GRIDDERS find it hard to move the football against the visiting Regina Mustangs defense in the second of two home games at Kinsmen Century Field.

The Yorkton Minor Football (YMF) Peewee Gridders suffered their second setback of the season as they fell 40-0 to the visiting Regina Mustangs in their home opener at Kinsmen Century Field Saturday afternoon.

Head coach Jason Farrell says he knew the Peewee Gridders would have a tough start to the season with only five returning players and 25 rookies who have never played 12-man football before.

That said, Farrell says the Peewee Gridders took away some positives from the game. The defense was able to force the Mustangs into third down situations. The offense put together some drives. "It was certainly a better played game than last game and as a coaching staff that's all you hope for out of your team," he states.

Every practise, the Peewee Gridders focus on conditioning, says Farrell. "You have to be in good shape to play this game because if you're sucking wind in the fourth quarter, it doesn't matter what your playbook looks like," he asserts.

Additionally the peewees will focus on blocking and shedding blocks, says Farrell. "We set up a couple of bubble screens that we weren't able to execute because there was no blocking on the outside," he points out.

The Peewee Gridders coaching staff this season includes head coach Farrell, offensive coordinator Jason Payne, defensive coordinator Marcel Porte, special teams coach Allan Varjassy, assistant coach Clayton Burkholder, defensive coaches Jona-than Hull and Guy Gend-reau and team waterboy Jake Farrell. "The team wouldn't be as solid as a unit as it is without the help of Jake Farrell," he closes.
