Yorkton RCMP seek public assistance

THE YORKTON SHELL STATION located 140 Smith Street East was the scene of a brutal murder discovery early Monday morning. RCMP are now requesting the public's assistance in solving the crime.

He was well known in the community and will be missed by many. On Sunday Jimmy Ray Wiebe went to work much like any other day as he had for the past 10 years, but the day was far from ordinary. Police are now looking for his killer(s).

RCMP have now confirmed the identity of the male involved in a homicide investigation that took place in the city in the early hours of Monday morning.

Jimmy Ray Wiebe, aged 50, from Yorkton, is deceased. On Monday morning at approximately 4:40 a.m., the Yorkton Municipal detachment of the RCMP received a call of a male with serious injuries at the Shell Station located on Smith Street. Both RCMP and Yorkton EMS attended the scene where they found the body of Wiebe who was discovered by a customer. He had sucumed to injuries.

Wiebe had been employed at the gas station and convenience store for over 10 years.

RCMP are now seeking the public's assistance in solving this crime. In particular, says Sgt. Paul Dawson "F" Division Media Relations Officer, police are requesting that anyone who may have been in that area on the morning in question, either driving or walking, between the hours of 1:30 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. and noticed anything suspicious or unusual are asked to contact police. The store operates 24 hours/day and anyone who may have been in the store during that time period is also asked to contact police. The public is advised to remember that even seemingly insignificant information may be relevant to this investigation.
