With the temperature dropping and abundance of snow early in the season, the Yorkton Sno-Riders Snowmobile Club is up and running and looking aheasd to another season on the trails. Club president Jason Popowich says the club's annual season kick-off and annual dealer open house with King's Sport and Leisure and Schrader's Honda Yamaha Suzuki has drawn lots of interest. "It's been very busy. There's been lots of traffic in both Schrader's and King's today. We've sold lots of membership," Popowich reports.
The SnoRider steak supper is sold out. The profits from the supper will be donated to the Prairie Women On Snowmobiles, an organization which fundraises for breat cancer re--search. The decision to support the Prairie Women on Snowmobiles was made last year after they stopped in Yorkton on their annual cross Canada tour. Their stories of surviving cancer touched a lot of SnoRiders members, Popowich says.
The evening social will feature a live auction. Toward the end of last season, the SnoRiders were presented with a new Ski-Doo MXZ TNT sled courtesy of Bombardier and King's Sport and Leisure as part of the million dollar dealer support program. Over the last three years the SnoRiders signed up the highest average number of members to claim the prize. After tossing around the idea of what to do with the new sled, it was decided to make it a part of the annual season opening social with a live auction, Popowich explains. Yamaha Motor Canada also donated a snowmobile jacket and suit for the auction. Sherring Gold donated a gold ring for the auction, with the proceeds going to the Prairie Women on Snowmobiles, Popowich adds.
The club will start to sign and groom trails after the last weekend of hunting season.
Members have been preparing the shelters, painting and splitting wood at the shelters. They have also been preparing the grooming equipment, including installing a track kit on a new John Deere tractor recently purchased by the club.
