The Yorkton Terriers hosted the visiting Notre Dame Hounds at the Farrell Agencies Arena Wednesday night. Despite being outshot 32-20 by the Terriers, the Hounds staged a 5-1 win over the Terriers.
The teams were even at one goal apiece after 20 minutes as Todd Christian scored the game opener for Notre Dame. Riley Paterson evened things up assisted by Devon McMullen and Chase Norrish.
The Hounds scored three second period goals while holding Yorkton scoreless with goals from Ben Morgan, Mitch Boucher and Troy Murray.
Catlin Foley capped the scoring in the game with an early third period goal to clinch a 5-1 win for Notre Dame.
Yorkton Terriers head coach Trent Cassan admits losing on home ice while only scoring one goal isn't the kind of result he likes to see.
Cassan says Notre Dames goal tender, Ty Reichenbach, played very well, turning aside Terrier scoring drives very well. "I don't think we had too many bounces go our way tonight, but that's going to happen, Some nights they are and some nights they're not," he suggests.
While he points out the Terriers did have several scoring opportunities, Cassan states that the costly mistakes they made are currently hurting their game. He suggests the Terriers aren't going to score many goals as a team. Therefore they need to do other things right. They need to block shots more effectively and be tougher in their own end.
It's been an up and down year so far with some games being very good while others haven't been, Cassan says. There are no easy nights in the SJHL, he notes. When a team doesn't produce an all round 100 per cent game and effort it will have some rough nights.
While he still believes he has a good group of players and will continue to work with the current roster, Cassan says it's no secret the team needs both goal scorers and those who can stop opposition scoring. "When you don't score many and you're giving up more that does make it tougher to win games. So I think both those aspects are something we have to look at as far as personnel but at the same time work with guys that we have here too because think it's a good group of guys," he states.
The Yorkton Terriers broke out of a three game skid with a 4-2 win over the Humboldt Broncos at the Elgar Peterson Arena in Humboldt Saturday.
Following a scoreless first, Andrew Johnston gave Humboldt a one goal margin less than a minute into the second period.
Jeremy Johnson opened Terrier scoring with a powerplay marker midway through the second assisted by Jamie Vlanich.
Neil Landry scored Humblodt's go-ahead goal to give the Broncos a one goal margin after 40 minutes.
Three third period goals sewed up the game for the Terriers.
Paterson tied the game at two early in the third assisted by newcomer Tyler Giebel and Devon McMullen.
Zak Majkowski notched the powerplay game winner assisted by Struble and Giebel.
Chase Norrish added the insurance marker with a little over a minute left in regulation time to hand Yorkton the 4-2 win assisted by Paterson.
