You have a choice on May 2

To the Editor:

This election is about you, your family, your future and your Canada. I have had the privilege to serve my Canada in the highest court of the land, the House of Commons. I sat directly across from the Harper Reform Party later called Alliance and now they call themselves Conservatives.

This Reform-Alliance-Conservative coalition platform has not changed. I watched Stephen Harper stand and vote in favour of the Gun Registry. He does not tell you that. Ask yourself can he be trusted? Their agenda continues to reflect the right wing platform of the Reform Party.

The constituency of Yorkton-Melville has a huge contingent of farm families, First Nations people and seniors. For farmers, this Conservative coalition says no support systems and no subsidies. In other words leave them out there on their own regardless of what they might encounter. For justice, this Conservative coalition says build more jails; lock them up and throw away the key.

The government of Canada under the leadership of Harper is a government of fear mongering and greed. Is this what the people of Yorkton-Melville want? Do you want a Prime Minister who continues to dictate and the rest follow? I think not.

Five years of this coalition government has left Canada's financial system squeezed, democracy weakened and Canada's standing in the world has declined.

We must have a government that is compassionate, tolerant and cares about the people they serve. Equal opportunity must be given to every individual man, women and child regardless of colour or age.

Canadian families have driven the economy of this country before. In order to succeed we must provide them with the tools to do this again.

On May 2 you have a choice to make a difference. On May 2 my choice is Kash Andreychuk, Liberal. What is yours?

Marlene Cowling, Former Member of Parliament for the Gov't of Canada.
