The Yorkton Regional High School (YRHS) hosted the East Central District (ECD) Junior Badminton Champioships Monday.
Tournament coordinator Zian Nowosad says nine schools from all over the district with some 120 competitors participated in the final season competition.
The tournament features the usual contests, including boys' and girls' singles, boys' and girls' doubles, and mixed doubles.
Nowosad says there was some excellent competition in certain categories. Girls' doubles and boys' doubles were both very competitive. There was some greater disparity in the singles competition.
Yorkton was represented by eight teams from Sacred Heart High School (SHHS) while the YRHS had two teams entered, Nowosad reports.
The event wraps up the junior badminton season while the senior season will finish with regional competition this Saturday at YRHS, Nowosad notes.
The YRHS team got a late start this season, Nowosad says. Numbers were down slightly and player ability was a little weaker than in past years, he adds.
SHHS junior badminton coach Brian Chisholm has been very happy with his team's performance this year. He reports that the SHHS squad managed to claim gold at every tournament it attended this season. In competing for the ECD berths against YRHS, the Sacred Heart contingent had eight teams representing the city which culminated one of the school's better badminton seasons.
