The Yorkton United Soccer Association hosted the first of three mini-soccer festivals for the Under 6, Under 8, Under 10, Under 12 and Under 14 teams.

Basically the youngsters in the community program are divided up into various teams and playing soccer all day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. reports Yorkton United media rep Chad Grodzinski.

In addition to the soccer matches, the day saw a 'hardest shot' competition. Competitors' shots were timed with a radar gun to determine who had the hardest shot, Grodzinski explains.

As well Royal Ford was on hand with their Drive One for Your Community Organization promotion which earned the Yorkton United Football Club (YUFC) $20 for each vehicle tested by drivers to a maximum of $6,000.

YUFC has about 340 youngsters in the community program, as well as the future stars and stars programs, Grodzinski reports. A lot of the youngsters are involved in both the stars and future stars programs which offer a little more training to the younger kids and a more competitive program for the older youngsters, he explains. The competitive players travel to tournaments. The Under 12s and Under 14s compete in the Regina soccer league.

The mini-soccer festival allows the youngsters to get a few more games in, Grodzinski points out. "I hope the kids are having fun," he closes.

Terry Ortynsky of Yorkton Royal Ford is at it again this summer, helping local sports clubs raise much needed money for their programs.

The first such event, the current season is the Drive One for your Community Organization event in support of the local Yorkton United Soccer Club offered by the Ford Motor Company through Royal Ford.

For every test drive taken by visitors to the event, Ford donates $20 to the soccer club, Ortynsky reports. "So if we have 300 test drives, the club will get $6,000," he points out.

It's a great way to raise money because up to $6,000 can be raised in one afternoon which is phenomenal, he suggests.

Ortynsky and Royal Ford are well known for their generosity in the community with the Yorkton Regional High School's magazine campaign as well as the test drive campaign. "Where-ever we can help out in the community and give back, we participate," he says.

Ortynsky announces he'd like to do another test drive campaign this year, as he likes to run two each year. "If anybody is interested they can just contact us because we want to do one other one for the year," he says. People should contact Sylvia at Terry Ortynsky's Royal Ford at 782-2261.
