Yorkton United Football Club hosted its final soccer festival over the weekend as all levels of Yorkton footy enjoyed what was a weekend of hot weather on the pitch. Saturday featured inter-squad scrimmages and local league play as well as a match featuring the Yorkton United Fury U-14 team and the ACFC Pumas and the U-12 Yorkton United Chelsea taking on AC Pumas Gold.
The YUFC Chelsea side lost another tough 9-2 game which could have been closer if the young side finished their chances, hitting the post multiple times to kick off the second half, which coach Andy Wyatt felt really changed the tide of the game.
Saturday also featured an inter-squad scrimmage between the U-18 and men's players to cap off a full day of football.
Sunday's highlights included a Under 8 grassroots level mini-tournament, a ladies scrimmage and the final of the Challenge Cup that was made up from the previous rain cancellation.
The Yorkton United Fury also took the pitch again on Sunday notching a 12-nil drubbing over QC United from Regina in a result that showed the dominance of the U-14 side.
The weekend's action was then wrapped up by the men as the Parkland Mall Men's League saw action after cancellations the previous week due to unplayable pitch conditions.
Yorkshire and Parkland Albion saw their first defeat of the season at the hands of Team Red in a physical 6-4 final score. Leon Derks proved to be the difference maker in the day's best match with some stunning long distance strikes that proved to much for the Albion to handle despite battling for most of the game and taking a 2-1 lead after trailing one-nil at halftime. Other games that took place Sunday saw Celtic playing the M&M Water Supplies Whitecaps and Black finishing off the festival with a match against Celtic in the late fixture. League play resumes July 8.
