COUGAR CORNER HEADLINES: Senior boys win, get set for playoffs

After a tight three-point win over Kamsack on March 2, the CCS Cougars senior basketball team is preparing for upcoming conference playoffs.

CANORA - The CCS Senior Boys Basketball Team hosted Kamsack Spartans on March 2. The game was close, back and forth with lead changes throughout, however Canora prevailed with a 65-62 final score.  Scorers for Canora included Briel Beblow, Toby Olynyk and Matthew Makowsky with numerous three-pointers down the stretch.  Good luck to both teams in their upcoming conference season playoffs on March 10 and 11.

At least 57 people have been killed in a serious train crash in Greece. The incident happened on the morning of March 1 near the city of Tempe in the northern part of the country.

The head-on collision occurred when a packed passenger train slammed into a cargo train traveling in the opposite direction on the same track. At least 85 people were injured in the accident.  Early reports from emergency crews at the scene suggest that two passenger cars were almost completely crushed by the impact. The tragedy is being called the worst railway disaster in Greek modern history. As a result of the crash, a Greek station master was arrested and the country’s transport minister resigned from his position. According to CTV News Channel Anchor Marcia MacMillan, about 350 people were onboard the passenger train at the time of the crash.
