Happy Groundhog Day! Will winter last? Early spring or six weeks of winter? Groundhog Day always falls on February 2 and 2017 was no exception, so wherever you go, no matter what the weather, always bring your own sunshine.

The Canora Composite School’s senior girls basketball team won its own eight-team tournament played January 27 and 28. Canora defeated Esterhazy 49-32; Norquay, 49-43 and Birch Hills, 46-40, said Curtis Baillie, head coach.

Each of the eight teams with the Canora Minor Hockey Association had opportunity to play a game during the Canora Minor Hockey Day on January 28. The Canora Atom Red Cobras met the Langenburg Atom Warriors for a league game and lost 7-2.

The Bob Kolodziejski rink of Canora topped the A event of the Canora Town and Country bonspiel held January 25 to 29. The bonspiel had attracted 17 rinks.

Kamsack and Canora air cadets joined together in Kamsack on January 28 for an exercise in rockets. Wade Stachura, a second lieutenant with the Canora squadron who is its training officer, led the exercise at the Kamsack Comprehensive Institute.

I just did something that I thought I would never do: I joined Twitter! Now I, along with millions of others, can add my two cents worth to the conversation (which is really nothing considering the status of the now defunct penny in Canada).

Willy’s Wonderkids was the winner of the A side of the Canora Flames tournament held January 20 and 21. Players in the four teams participating were selected by draws, and it was a round robin format, said James Trofimenkoff, an organizer.
