“What a season!” Shyla Yannoulis, the assistant coach of the Canora Cougars junior girls volleyball team, used those three words to describe the Cougars’ season following the gold medal win at the Districts tournament on Saturday.

Sheila McDonald and Margaret Knight of Invermay were presented prestigious awards at the Saskatchewan Seniors Mechanism sixth-annual Celebrating Seniors Volunteer Awards event at the Delta Hotel in Regina on October 4.

A total of 231 persons attended the first flu immunization clinic at the Keen Age Centre on October 22, said Kelly Strelioff, the public health nurse for the Canora area.

There were 102 guests registered at Canora Hospital Auxiliary’s fall fundraiser, which included indulging in a large selection of pies for the fall coffee (tea)-and-pie event.

A student “who has added karaoke and acting to his resume,” Benjamin Kuang, a Grade 12 student, received the 2015 Student of Distinction Award for the Canora Composite School.

Michael Owchar received the Good Spirit School Division board of education’s fifth annual Student of Distinction Award on Friday. This award is handed out every year during Education Week, said Shannon Leson, a member of the board of education.

A professional football team was practicing when a large turkey strutted onto the field. While they all gazed in amazement, the turkey caught pass after pass and ran right through the defensive line. The coach offered him a signing bonus on the spot.

There were more birthday cakes decorated for the Keen Age Society’s birthday celebrations for September and October then there were celebrants on October 18. The celebrants were John Oystryk and Marge Shewchuk.

For so many families to attend, the Harvest Festival at the Activity Centre on October 17 really did exceed all expectations, said Sara Kozmanuik, the youth liaison worker with the CAP/CPR program.
