Additional free fishing weekend later this summer

Due to the wildfire conditions in northern areas of Saskatchewan, an additional free fishing opportunity will be considered later this summer.

Due to the wildfire conditions in northern areas of Saskatchewan, an additional free fishing opportunity will be considered later this summer. A date will be confirmed when the wildfire conditions no longer pose a significant threat to northern communities and individuals have returned to their homes.

The current scheduled free fishing weekend still proceeded on July 11 and 12 as listed in the 2015 Angler’s Guide. However, anglers were asked to avoid all wildfire-affected lakes and communities in northern Saskatchewan.

Although angling licences are not required during the free fishing weekend for Saskatchewan residents or visitors, all other fishing regulations remain in effect, including possession limits.

Free fishing weekend does not apply in national parks and anyone planning to take fish out of the province must purchase a licence. Please also respect the current fi re ban in northern provincial forests and parks.

For more information about fishing in Saskatchewan, including comprehensive information about types of fish found in the province, as well as specific catch limits, see the 2015 Anglers’ Guide, available at ministry offices or online at www.saskatchewan.ca/fishing.
