Parkland College's scholarship fund is $12,000 richer following a unique event Saturday at Painted Hand Casino. The inaugural theme night, An Evening in Africa, featuring a fashion show by Yorkton boutiques and African dance troupe Onyxtasia, brought in $6,000 from ticket sales and a silent auction, which will be matched by the provincial Innovation and Opportunity Scholarship Program.
"We are so thrilled that the community put its support behind this brand new fundraiser," said Carol Wiens, chair of the organizing committee. "The turnout was fantastic, and dozens of local businesses really stepped up as sponsors. It's remarkable to see the community give back in this way."
Planning for next year's event, Hurray for Bollywood, with an Indian theme is already under way.
