Yorkton Municipal RCMP reported an attempted child abduction on Friday, June 11th.

It was about 8:30 a.m. when a 10 year old girl was walking to a friend's home before school started. An unknown male got out of his vehicle in the residential area and tried to grab the girl's arm. She was able to run away without being harmed.

RCMP did not release the name of the school or area where the attempted abduction occurred, but stated it was on the southwest side of Yorkton.

The Yorkton Police Dog Service was called in to trace the offender. The track ended after a short distance, leading the police to believe the man left the area in a vehicle.

Police have canvassed the area in an effort to locate the vehicle, but it has not yet been located. The offender is described as Caucasian, about 5'9" tall with a slender build. He is in his 20s. He was wearing a red shirt with vertical stripes, baggy blue jeans, skateboard runners and a ball cap at the time. The offender has shaggy brown hair that stuck out from under his cap at all sides. His hair also obscured his eyes. He has a jagged cut on his right arm, about the length of a pinky finger, that is red and appears to be healing.

The vehicle is a two-door, dark blue boxy looking car that is possibly a hatchback. There is also a scratch leading to a dent on the passenger side. The licence plate is white with blue letters.

Local school divisions were notified and are working with the RCMP in the investigation. Victims Services was called to assist with the young girl and her family.

RCMP say this is an isolated incident and the investigation is continuing. Anyone with further information is encouraged to call the Yorkton Municipal RCMP regarding the incident (786-2400).
