In the very early 1900s, the Yorkton Enterprise published lists of ranchers operating in the surrounding countryside of Yorkton, and further afield. Each ad also had a sketch of the cattle or horse brand owned by the rancher. Branding was important in proving ownership of lost or stolen stock. It is an impressive list, with more than sixty operations on record.
