The City of Yorkton is sponsoring the Steve Laycock team at the Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling Canadian Open event in Yorkton December 8 to 13, 2015.

The announcement was made at the November 16th Regular Meeting of Council.

“Team Layock is our hometown team and we are proud to have them represent our community,” said Mayor Bob Maloney in a release circulated Monday. “This event was incredibly popular and exciting last year, and was supported so well by the community that the organizers decided to come back again. Events like these also bring considerable revenue to businesses within the city and Council decided we would do our part to promote the event and help make it even bigger this year,” said the Mayor.

“We are very pleased to include the city as one of our key local sponsors, and look forward to making the community proud at the grand slam event,” said team skip Steve Laycock in the same release.

The city’s logo will appear on the team’s off-ice hoodie and is one of a number of organizations supporting the team in this manner. The city also purchased three hoodies signed by team members to be donated to the Yorkton Curling Club for fundraising purposes. The club plans to sell raffle tickets to those attending the event, and one hoodie will be given to a lucky winner in each of the final three evenings during Social House activities.

The sponsorship cost is $2,000.

Tickets to the Pinty’s Grand Slam event are now on sale at www.ticketmaster.ca or at the Gallagher Centre Box Office.
