Bruce Thurston, General Manager of the Yorkton Co-op announced that the Yorkton Co-op will return as the Presenting Sponsor of The Health Foundation's annual Charity Road Race.

"This is the kind of event the Yorkton Co-op likes to be involved with. This event helps our community by raising money for our local healthcare, and that's good all by itself. But, in addition to that it promotes health and fitness with a lot of outreach to schools and the business community, and that is a very good thing," said Mr. Thurston.

"We are very fortunate to have the Yorkton Co-op as our Presenting Sponsor, said Ross Fisher, Executive Director of The Health Foundation. Events like this can't take place if you don't have significant sponsorship, and we are very fortunate that the Yorkton Co-op is so very supportive and works with us to improve our local healthcare."

In addition to providing $5,000 as the Presenting Sponsor, the Yorkton Co-op also helps by supplying fruit, water and refreshments for the runners. The Yorkton Co-op supports many of our campaigns for new medical equipment, and has worked with us for years. We are very pleased to have their continuing support, continued Mr. Fisher.

The Charity Road Race has grown every year, and we expect that to continue. The Learn to Run clinics start Tuesday May 6th, and continue every Tuesday and Thursday until the Road Race. There are three running clinics: a 5km for beginners, and 10 km and half marathon clinics for those who already run. If you can't attend the first week of the clinics that's okay; people can register for the clinics any time in May.

"We want to keep our clinic for beginners, because it is very important to us to have that entry point for people who don't run, but would like to introduce an element of fitness into their lifestyle. We know it is often much easier to begin when you participate with others who are at the same level you are", said Ross Fisher Executive Director of The Health Foundation.

The Charity Road Race features six events: a half marathon, a 10 km relay event and individual runs of 10km, 5km, a 2km junior race and a 5km community walk. The 10 km relay features teams of 4 people, with each person running 2.5 km.

"People are entering the Road Race to use it as incentive to get in shape, or to quit smoking, or to lose weight. Many enter the road race and collect pledges to help raise funds for medical equipment. There are a lot of reasons why people should participate, but regardless of why you enter the Charity Road Race, we are going to make sure it is well organized and people have a great day," Mr. Fisher continued.
