Parkland Regional College has been granted extensions to carry out both landscaping and paving required by the City at the new Trades and Technology Centre now under construction in the city.
"A+K Architects approached Planning Services with a request to defer the planted elements throughout the college site. The architect also requested that a substantial portion of the parking lot and travel lanes be graveled rather than paved," detailed an administrative report circulated to the regular meeting of Yorkton Council Monday. "The architect proposes the site be grassed as an interim step to landscaping it with trees and shrubs."
The Architect's proposal would see the landscaping work phased in over five years after the opening of the Centre.
The architect also approached Planning Services regarding deferring pavement of some of the travel lanes and parking lots.
While the request had no set time to complete paving, Council chose to impose the same five-year completion time as with landscaping.
The unanimous decision by Council will allow Planning Services to enter into an agreement with the college outlining the details of the work deferral agreement.
"The agreement will define Parkland College's responsibilities to complete this phase of the campus. Planning Services is of the opinion that a written agreement will be sufficient to ensure the landscape elements and the paving will be completed in a timely manner," detailed the report.
