Community holds civic elections

Families and friends gathered at the Calder Community hall on May 22, 2010 for a wedding social for Trevor and Nicole Rapchalk. Jean Rapchalk had surgery in Saskatoon right after the wedding social. She is home now and doing well.

Viriginia Wandy is home after spending the last few weeks at the Yorkton Hospital.

Sympathy goes out to the Wandy and Mankish families on the recent passing of their brother in law.

On June 5, 2010, the Calder Seniors held their whist drive at the Good Neighbour Centre. The winners of the whist drive were, 1st Jack Miller, 2nd Donna Fustey, 3rd marlene Miller, low Anna Fyck. The pot of gold winner was Ella Becker.

The Calder library is open Monday and Wednesday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Come out in July and have some fun at the library. The summer reading program is Destination Jungle. We will learn to make a volcano, monkey masks and other things. Ages five to twelve are welcome to come out to the library.

Calder held elections for town councilor on June 16, 2010. Doug Mckenzie ran for councilor, he has been living here for the last seven years. He owns and operated the Calder Hotel.

Myrna Pastershank is the other person that ran for councilor. She moved into Calder two years ago and works at the Yorkton Union Hospital.

Calder School has been busy. Some of the students went to some track meets. The Kindergarten to grad four classes will be going to Churchbridge for a fun day.

The new councilor for the Village of Calder is Doug McKenzie. Congratulations to Doug.

We would like to thank the two people who ran for the councilor position. It is nice to see that people do care what happens in their town.

The Calder Seniors held their whist drive. The winners of the whist drive were, 1st Jim Fustey, 2nd Elmer Eftoda, 3rd Donna Fustey, low was Norman Wozney. The Pot of Gold winners were Mildred Danyklo and Donald Kahut.

Donald Kahut is out visiting with family and friends.

Julia Mclean has her grandchildren out visiting with her for awhile.

There is only a week of school left, hope all the students have a great summer holiday.The community and surrounding area is sad to here that the Roeder family has decided to move back to Alberta. Where ever you decided to make your new home remember all the good friends you have made here in Calder.

Calder's 100th Birthday celebration is in the making for July 20th, July 31st and August 1st, 2011.
