Speed limits entering the city along Highway 10 are being raised.
In 2011 Yorkton Council had lowered speed limits along the highway.
"Since that time, there has been considerable discussion about this change and a desire to restore the speed along this corridor," detailed a report circulated at the regular meeting Monday.
"The information available from the Transportation Master Plan indicates that approximately 2350 vehicles utilize this roadway daily," said Josh Mickleborough, manager of engineering with the City.
"Administration feels that the proposed limits meet the current requirements for this area."
The recommendation approved by Council will see the following speed zones;
The speed zones on Hwy #10 east, as shown in this report, be implemented by Engineering Services and Public Works. Specifically that the speed zones are:
A 70 kph zone starting from approximately 600m west of city limits running to
A 60 kph zone starting at approximately 100m east of Husky road transitioning to
A 50 kph zone at Mayhew Ave. This is then consistent with the limit established for the Broadway Corridor
The matter was reviewed and with the Protective Services Committee and the Planning and Infrastructure Commission.
