The City of Yorkton will proceed with public notification regarding a discretionary use request which could lead to a new apartment complex in the city at 44 Allanbrooke Drive.

"The subject lands are zoned Medium Density Residential. The proposed development is to be considered under the Planned Unit Development provisions of Zoning Bylaw, as construction of a the third Apartment Dwelling will require all three buildings to be situated on a single parcel of land, sharing access, parking and amenity," detailed a report circulated at the regular meeting of Yorkton Council Monday.

"The proposed building would be three stories in height, consist of 29, two bedroom units and be constructed on the northeast corner of the existing properties. There are two existing Apartment Dwellings, each with 36 two-bedroom units. The existing buildings are on separately-titled lots but share parking amenities. The proposed development would provide for a total of 101 two-bedroom units on a single parcel of land. Each of the units will be marketed for rental accommodation only," said Michael Eger, planner with the City.

"Because of the Developer's ability to meet City requirements and because of the City's need to address the rental market housing shortage, Planning Services is in favour of the proposed development."
