On behalf of the Credit Unions of East Central Saskatchewan, Corvyn Neufeld presented a cheque for $2,500 to The Health Foundation as part of the regional Credit Union support for local healthcare.

The Credit Unions in east central Saskatchewan - Cornerstone, Churchbridge, Crossroads, Foam Lake, Horizon and Affinity - have been involved in the Charity Classic for all 12 years, both as sponsors and golfers collecting pledges for local healthcare. Four years ago the Credit Unions increased their sponsorship for the Charity Golf Classic by becoming Presenting Sponors. Becoming a Presenting Sponsor involved a larger financial sponsorship but also a commitment to become part of the organizing committee for the tournament.

"The Credit Unions in our region have always been very supportive of our work," said Ross Fisher. "They are among our largest and most consistent donors, but in addition to making donations they also help us with work we need to do. Their contributions to improving our local healthcare are simply outstanding. Some projects they have worked on with us are:
They were among our lead donors to the multi-purpose centre project in 2001 with combined contributions over $200,000
They were our lead donor with a $100,000 commitment when we raised funds for the digital mammography machine. That large donation from Credit Unions representing 35 communities helped generate momentum and awareness; that very much assisted the success of that campaign.
Credit Unions also assist us with our $100,000 cash lottery by selling tickets at all 35 branches in this health region.

"This is a great tournament," said Corvyn Neufeld. "Working on this tournament and raising pledges for healthcare is one of the more fun and enjoyable ways we can support our local communities. We usually have between 12 and 16 people who collect pledges for this tournament, and nobody minds at all because we know it's going to a great cause."

"Proceeds of this tournament buy equipment for all of the healthcare facilities in Sunrise Health Region; so when we support this tournament we support all of our communities," continued Mr. Neufeld.

"We also like this tournament because it is efficient, with 100% of the pledges raised by golfers going to buy medical equipment. Sponsorship covers the cost of the tournament so all of the monies raised by pledges can be used for medical equipment," he continued.

Organization is already well underway for the Charity Golf Classic, which will take place on Thursday June 9th this year. Once again the proceeds will be used to buy medical equipment for all the healthcare facilities throughout Sunrise Health Region.
