The annual D-Day parade and service will be held in Yorkton Friday.
This year's event marks the 70th anniversary of the Allied invasion of France which took place beginning June 6, 1944, explained Peter Wyatt with the Alexander Ross branch of the Royal Canadian Legion in the city.
As in past years the parade will muster at 6:15 p.m. Friday at the Good Spirit School Division offices on King Street.
The parade will march off at 6:30, said Wyatt, making its way to the Cenotaph located in the nearby Yorkton Cemetery.
"There will be a brief ceremony," said Wyatt.
The ceremony will include a lying of wreaths, and then the ashes of wreaths collected and burned on Remembrance Day will be spread over the graves of deceased soldiers.
"It's a tradition started by Alexander Ross," said Wyatt.
The parade will then march back the staging area, and be dispersed. Wyatt said everyone is welcome to meet at the Legion Lounge for refreshments after the parade.
