Some ladies from Dubuc attended the FunRaisers Ladies Nite Out in Bangor last Friday. A delicious Chicken, Pasta and salad supper was served followed by a yummy Lemon Angel Food dessert. Trevor Kerr was again the MC and provided much laughter with games and jokes throughout the evening. About 70 raffles prizes, a major door prize of a lovely garden water fountain and several give-aways were won by those in attendance. Some won as many as 4 prizes while others went away with nothing except the memories of a very enjoyable evening.
The whole event is organized and catered by the FunRaisers group of 5 ladies that raise money for the benefit of the Morris Lodge residents and the décor at the lodge to give it a homey atmosphere. It was noted that this was the 9th annual Ladies Nite Out and that in the previous 8 evenings, over $28,000 had been raised. Great work, ladies!
There was a great turnout at coffee row on Saturday morning, no birthdays but a lot of laughs and good visiting. Volunteers signed up to work in the canteen for the Hedstrom auction sale to be held on April 21. The Dubuc Recreation Association is serving lunch and refreshments. The proceeds will be going toward the Memorial Hall upkeep.
Chris Topliss of Yorkton was an overnight visitor with her sister, Vivian and Jim Talbot, following the Ladies Nite Out on Friday. Chris accompanied them to coffee row next morning before returning home later in the day.
John Sawchuk, of Melville, formerly of Stockholm, celebrated his 100th birthday at a dinner party with his family and a few close friends. Bernice Herperger of Stockholm, his step daughter, made a lovely birthday cake that was served with supper.
John lives on his own in a suite with the help of the St. Paul's care home respite program, home care, meals on wheels and his devoted nieces.
Mary Forsberg accompanied Martha Burge (Fred) of Whitewood, Bernice's sister, to attend the celebration in Melville on Saturday afternoon.
John was predeceased by his wife, Jean (Franson-Anderson), last fall six weeks before she would have turned 100 in November. It is interesting to note that John's father also reached the milestone of 100 years of age. It must be in the genes! Happy Birthday to You, John, from all your friends in Dubuc and Stockholm. We hope you had a wonderful celebration.
