Just over a week after fire shut the doors of Yorkton's only dry cleaning shop, the owners are still waiting on an insurance settlement.
"Everything is in limbo," said Loreen Poier, co-owner with husband Doug of York-Sask Dry Cleaners. "We really want to get some word out to our customers what is going on, but there's nothing official we can report right now. It's frustrating."
What is official is that the business will re-open, Loreen promised mere hours after the blaze had been quashed by Yorkton firefighters.
On the night of November 27, fire broke out in the mechanical room of the business on First Avenue. Using an interior attack, firefighters were able to contain the fire mainly to the basement and extinguish it in approximately an hour.
The department quickly ruled out arson determining the cause was electrical. There were no injuries and only minor smoke damage to adjacent businesses.
Unfortunately, customers' clothes were not so lucky.
"Everything is really seriously smoke-damaged," Loreen said after perusing the damage on November 28.
Even though it has been a traumatic week for the couple, they have been uplifted by support.
"This community of Yorkton rises to the occasion every time," Loreen said.
York-Sask Dry Cleaners has served the city since 1978.
