Greg Ottenbriet, MLA for Yorkton announced new infrastructure funding for the Yorkton airport.
For the fourth consecutive year, the Province will provide $700,000 to the 50 per cent cost-shared program, which is designed to help offset costs for airports that do not receive scheduled passenger service.
"The Government is pleased to renew its commitment to aviation, which plays such a critical role in Saskatchewan's growing economy," Highways and Infrastructure Minister Don McMorris said. "Airports connect communities across our large province, benefit regional industry and provide landing space for air ambulances."
"Our government has made a commitment to investing in the infrastructure that keeps this province a national leader in economic growth," said Ottenbriet. "the steady growth our province has seen since 2007 is a testament to the hard work and vision of Saskatchewan's people, and this growth is what allows the government to invest in people and infrastructure to ensure this growth continues."
"Today's investment of $36,000 brings the total infrastructure funding for Yorkton's airport to nearly $1 million since 2007-08."
Community airports were able to apply for funding for projects supporting economic development, general access to surrounding communities, air ambulances, commercial operations and aviation safety.
The funds will be used for runway and taxiway repairs, and improved drainage.
