Halloween in Yorkton will include a night of live music for those taking in the show at Joe Beeverz Bar and Grill.

The Goatboys will be providing the music.

The Vancouver-based trio includes Daniel Martin on guitar and vocals, Jordan Stoll-Hoskins (Curly) on drums, and Tyler Zito on bass.

Like many bands the trio came together pretty much on chance.

“The band started in 2007 when we all worked as arborists for a tree service company,” said Martin.

The three musicians bring diverse influences to The Goatboys, resulting in a band with a varied sound.

“We play several different kinds of music; bluegrass, trance, ragae, punk just to name a few,” offered Martin. “It depends on what kind of place we’re playing. Our influences range from the Foo Fighters, to the Grateful Dead and NOFX.”

Frontman Martin is the founder of the band. He has crossed Canada over 30 times playing over 1000 shows coast-to-coast with a number of different band members.

He did note there have been “many highlights, that probably shouldn’t be repeated,” then added the Halloween show will be his first time in Yorkton.

The show is part of a swing to promote a recent disc.

Martin wrote all the music, which dates back to 2012 after his last release.

“Most of this album was written canoeing down the Yukon River, or travelling in a hippy van,” he said.

The last record was recorded in a fancy studio.

“We thought we would change it up this time and record in a punk house that is more community oriented,” said Martin. “Great choice! Most of the album was recorded the exact same way we would perform it live, minus the odd accordion solo.”

The result is a disc Martin said The Goatboys are certainly pleased with.

“We couldn’t be happier with the new record,” he said. It “turned out exactly what we envisioned.”

Martin added, “We will be releasing a single this Friday and sending them to campus radio stations.”
