The photo was taken on November 11, 1946 when the Memorial on Darlington Street was re-dedicated. In 1919 there was a committee of citizens who initiated the War Memorial project. Over the decade that it took to achieve this work, the committee had to raise funds, decide on the location and the design of the monument. Also, Darlington Street between First and Third Avenue was widened, the cost being borne by the Town of Yorkton. This work was done in 1929, one year after Yorkton achieved city status. The Memorial was officially dedicated May 25, 1930 in honour of the Yorkton men killed in action during World War l. Eighty years later, with the cooperation of the City of Yorkton, Veterans Affairs Canada and the Royal Canadian Legion, General Alexander Ross, Branch #77, the memorial was restored and again rededicated May 15, 2010 to all those men killed in World War l, World War ll, and the Korean War.
