History Corner - Yorkton Hospital under construction

It was decided to build a new hospital in Yorkton in 1958 and a building committee of seven members was organized in February of 1959. The members were J.J. Schwartz, F. Laue, L. Mclean, F. Betker, J. Harason; J. Wolfe and L. Churko.

It was decided to build a new hospital in Yorkton in 1958 and a building committee of seven members was organized in February of 1959. The members were J.J. Schwartz, F. Laue, L. Mclean, F. Betker, J. Harason; J. Wolfe and L. Churko. The site was picked west of Gladstone Avenue South. Architectural plans were approved by the Executive Committee, with Drs C.J. Houston and R.Yaholnitsky from the Medical staff, and Miss M. Lee from the Nursing department in April 1959. The builders were McMillan Construction of Swift Current, their bid being the lowest at $1,223,200.00. The sod was turned on September 10, 1959 and the hospital was opened in April of 1962. The Psychiatric Centre was built next to the hospital and opened in 1963.
