ICU room gets upgrade

Room 6 in the Intensive Care Unit at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre is temporarily out of service as it undergoes an upgrade.

At the regular monthly Board meeting of the Sunrise Health Region Suann Laurent, president and CEO explained the room was taken out of service April 8, and was expected to remain closed for approximately two months.

"This upgrade project is required to meet certain Canadian Standards Association standards for a fully functional negative air pressure room for the ICU," she said.

A negative air pressure room is used in the treatment of certain diseases, such as tuberculosis, said Laurent.

While such a room is rarely needed, it is a CSA standard, and the work is being undertaken to ensure availability if local clients require the specialized aid.
