Get ready for the pets.
The Gallagher Center Agripavilion will be taken over by animals of all sizes during the weekend at the end of the month. They’ll be part of the inaugural Pet Expo.
The expo is a joint effort by KAOS Dogsports Inc. and Saskatchewan Reptile Shows.
“We wanted something that was fun and educational,” said Chris Larsen, the event manager.
The expo , which takes place from September 30 to October 1, will feature a mixture of exhibits and performances from the two companies.
KAOS is the biggest canine performance group in the province. They’ll offer a showing of tricks and fast-paced racing.
Reptile Shows will bring a large assortment of animals, including snakes and tortoises.
“You’ll be able to interact with the dogs and reptiles,” Larsen said.
The expo is a first for the two companies. They’re hosting a similar event in Swift Current on October 14-15. They plan to take the expo to Regina in the future. They’re starting the expo in Yorkton due to its medium-size and location.
“You guys have a great venue with the Gallagher Center,” Larsen said.
Other groups have been invited to the expo to fill the Gallagher Center to the roof with animals. Larsen said Paws and Claws Animal Rescue, Yorkton SPCA, and Rebel Cat Rescue will be among the many organizations on hand with pets.
Karen Renton, the president of Paws and Claws, said her group will have a booth set up at the expo. They’ll have several dogs and cats attendees can adopt.
“What a great opportunity,” said Renton.
Larsen hopes patrons learn about pet care from the expo.
“These animals are a substantial responsibility,” he said. “[But] they’re a lot of fun.”
General admission for the expo is $15. Children 12 years and under get in for free.
