A fundraiser to raise awareness of Colorectal Cancer was held at the Bentley, Friday, March 7. The residents held a "Lets sing our butts off karaoke fundraiser which was hosted by our Karaoke DJ Keegan Duck. The evening festivities were to help support and raise awareness for the Colorectal Cancer Association of Canada. Guest speaker and author Lorna Scott from Medicine Hat, Alberta, gave an informative presentation of signs and symptoms regarding colorectal cancer and how others can find peace, hope and joy when things in their in their life are not so happy. It was a blend of her story as a caregiver for her husband, what she learned along the way, encouragement about speaking to your doctor and inspirational words to help others find their own peace, hope and joy. Lorna's husband passed away from colorectal cancer and she is one of many of the volunteers that work with the CCAC. The fund raiser hit home with quite a few residents, who have battled the disease and won. Some have lost a loved one, or are going through it right now. The event was successful and we couldn't have done that without the support.
