It was with a great sense of excitement on June 7th, the Yorkton Lions Club, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Yorkton and District and the Boys and Girls Club of Yorkton spent the evening celebrating the youth and their programs.

A wonderful venue, generously provided by Vern and Donna Brown included Quad rides, graciously provided by Ward Brown and crew from Browns Leisure World. The hot dog supper was provided by the Yorkton Lions Club. It was an exciting evening, getting out and playing before the rains came.

The Big Brothers Big Sisters Organization within our community provides a wonderful service to our youth. Their mission statement: "Big Brothers Big Sisters of Yorkton and District Inc. is a community supported, volunteer-based organization committed to the healthy development of children in need and their families through the provision of quality one-to-one volunteer based mentoring relationships and other related programs." Their vision for every child who needs a mentor to have a mentor is all about sharing a little magic.

Mentoring is about the power of friendship. The volunteers and young people in the programs experience the magic of everyday moments when they are shared with a friend. Everyone needs someone to laugh with, share a dream with, and just hang out with friends. It's the little things that mean the most. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Yorkton and District has been creating friendships since 1983.

The Boys and Girls Club mission statement is, "Striving to offer children and youth from all economic, cultural and social backgrounds access to the resources, supports and opportunities that will enable them to overcome barriers and achieve their positive potential in life."

The Lions Club is made up of men and women working toward a common goal, working within the community and assisting with needs. They create fundraisers to assist with financial needs within our community, such as scholarships for the schools and college, youth clubs, special needs, collection of donated eyeglasses, the Lions Wilderness Experience for those in need and assisting the Canadian Cancer Society with pre-sales of daffodils-and the list goes on.

One of the Lions fund raising events are the Radio Days held annually. The Lions are out and about Yorkton and area selling radio ads. The funds generated are put toward community and service needs.

On hand to present the donations were Lions President Dave Blommaert and the Lions Club members, Ward Brown, Browns Leisure World and crew.
