Not Guilty Plea

A 30-year-old Yorkton man accused of an assault that left another man paralyzed has pleaded not guilty and will be tried May 17, 2016.

Defence attorney David Rusnak appearing for his client in Provincial Court November 16 entered the plea before Judge Ross Green.

Madsen, 30, was originally arrested and charged on September 24 with one count of assault causing bodily harm following an incident at the City Limits Inn. He was released on a police recognizance that includes conditions of abstaining from alcohol, not being present in places that sell alcohol and having no contact with the alleged victim Dennis Peepeetch, 41.

The charge was later changed from assault causing bodily harm to aggravated assault.

Peepeetch remains in hospital in Regina, but is out of Intensive Care and getting better every day according his sister Tamara Peepeetch. So far, a GoFundMe campaign has raised $2,275 to help with Peepeetch’s recovery.

Numerous supporters of the victim were present in court for not guilty plea and scheduling of the trial.
