The City is moving its Maintenance Manager office out of City Hall to a new spot at the Gallagher Centre.
At its regular meeting Monday Council authorized Administration to use $20,000 from Gallagher Centre reserves to relocate the office.
Councillor Ross Fisher was opposed.
"To increase levels of service at the Gallagher Centre, building maintenance practices need to incorporate more preventative maintenance measures. This will help prevent equipment failures and ensure consistent services to the public. The Gallagher Centre encompasses many different building systems of varying degrees of complexity. It would be beneficial for the Facilities Maintenance Manager to be stationed at this location to help address issues requiring immediate attention and to establish preventative maintenance programs for all of the building's systems," detailed a report circulated to Council.
"Recent organizational changes at the Gallagher Centre have elevated the need for supervision and direction for existing maintenance staff," added Trent Mandzuk, Director of Public Works with the City, adding the office will allow the manager "to maintain closer oversight of the Building Management System."
"The main objective for situating the Facilities Maintenance Manager at the Gallagher Centre is to provide the General Manager with expertise and guidance regarding proper building maintenance and building system operation. This will assist the General Manager in establishing necessary staffing levels, operating procedures, maintenance schedules and employee responsibilities," detailed the report.
"An office located at the Gallagher Centre is necessary for the Facility Maintenance Manager to effectively implement this process and ensure long-term objectives are met. The proposed location for the office will be on the second floor across from the Physio-Therapy office.
This space is currently used as storage for bottled beverages. The cost to renovate this space into an office has been estimated at $20,000. Administration seeks Council authorization to fund this project through Gallagher Centre reserves."
