A five-month multi-agency drug operation is nearing completion following seven more arrests last week in Yorkton.
In a sting March 13, police charged five men and two women with trafficking various controlled substances-including cocaine, crack, ecstacy and marijuana-and possession of the proceeds of crime.
Four of the male suspects, Adam Geysen, 29, Andrew Dobko, 23, Jeremy Machushek, 26, and Zachary Villeneuve, 24, and the two women, Mary-Jane Baetz, 20, and Jillian Fedun, 22, were released on conditions and are scheduled to appear in Yorkton Provincial Court on April 29.
The fifth male, Thomas Stevenson, 29, was remanded in custody on one count of cocaine trafficking, one count of possession of the proceeds of crime and several counts of breaching an undertaking or probation order. Stevenson appeared by video from Regina Correctional Centre on Monday and was adjourned to Wednesday pending a bail verification report requested by the Crown.
Sgt. James Morton of the Yorkton Provincial General Investigations Section said these latest arrests are related to a previous sting January 16 in which five people were arrested. He said three more arrests are pending, as well as, new charges for other suspects arrested in December and January.
Police allege the suspects were importing the drugs from British Columbia.
"They were bringing in lots of crack and cocaine," Morton said. "Unfortunately, there are lots of willing buyers. It's getting to be a bit of a mess out on the streets."
