Two youths accused of killing a 67-year-old Yorkton man last fall have pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and robbery with violence charges.

Lawrence Skoretz was found unresponsive on Wellington Park Road at approximately 5:15 a.m. September 13 and was pronounced dead shortly thereafter at Yorkton’s hospital.

The teens appeared briefly in Yorkton Provincial Court January 12 pleading not guilty and electing to be tried by judge alone at Court of Queen’s Bench.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for April 26 and 27.

As has been the case every time the boys have appeared in court, a large group of family and friends of the victim turned out for the hearing last Thursday, some holding photos of the deceased man.

The defendents cannot be named because they are under the age of 18.

The Crown is seeking to have them sentenced as adults if they are found guilty.
