If you attended the Sunflower this weekend, many of you probably noticed the warm smile on Michael Bayly's face or the large wall scissors hanging in Michael's booth. Originally from California, Michael and his wife decided to move back to Yorkton as "this city is a friendlier place to start a business". Getting out of the expensive and busy Californian life style, they moved back to Yorkton in hopes of getting out of the race and having the time to slow down and live a bit. Michael Bayly moved to Yorkton five years ago with Yorkton native Danyelle Morley now Mrs. Bayly.
It has been a long road but this weekend the official launch of Bayly Art has finally come to light. It has taken awhile to set up his art business, as Michael also works full time as a metal fabricator, and works late into the midnight hours, perfecting his skills and art pieces.
Michael started his art when he was 16 years old. He is a dedicated artist who wholly believes in practical art. His pieces are unique and beautiful but also serve a purpose in the home. From trendy tables to one of a kind mirrors, Michael can really work up the magic. His work is driven "towards practical pieces, something you'd need in a home, something unique that not every neighbour owns". Box stores pump out similar products in the millions and consequently it is "driving down the pride of ownership of unique possessions". Michael believes in providing his customers with a functional unique piece, one that may even strike up a conversation but will never be duplicated. His inspiration comes from "the smallest of things to life experiences and surprises".
Today, Michael is getting influenced from his newly embraced Saskatchewan activities, such as snowmobiling and ice fishing which have his mind in a whirl wind of creativity. Michael and his wife have settled down and are enjoying everything Saskatchewan has to offer, including the warm hospitality.
