The RCMP has petitioned Court of Queen's Bench for a publication ban in the murder trial of George Allgood to protect undercover operatives. Allgood is accused of the 2006 shooting death of Susan Reinhardt in Saskatoon. His 2010 arrest was the result of an undercover sting in which RCMP agents posed as members of an organized crime group.
Allgood also spent time in jail in the United States for the 1983 beating death of a 71-year-old man in Baltimore, Maryland. While living in Canada, he went by the name Reno Trevor Hogg.
In an affidavit to the court, a member of RCMP Covert Operations cited officer safety as justification for the three-year ban saying, "The publication of the identity of these undercover officers would affect the administration of justice by threatening the safety of undercover police officers, compromising police ability to continue undercover work in general and could compromise ongoing police investigations."
Alcohol and not wearing a helmet are being blamed for life-threatening injuries sustained by a Preeceville man in an ATV accident August 30 near Lady Lake. The 39-year-old driver of the ATV had to be airlifted to Regina General Hospital by STARS (Shock Trauma Air Rescue Service). An RCMP investigation is ongoing. No charges had been laid as of press time. Police remind recreational motorists that it is dangerous and illegal to operate an ATV or snowmobile without a helmet and under the influence of alcohol.
