April 2 at approximately 5:20 p.m., Punnichy RCMP along with the Cupar Fire Department, responded to a reported structure fire in the RM of Cupar in an uninhabited farm yard. A house, an outbuilding and a vehicle were destroyed. Arson is suspected.
On 7 April at approximately 7:00 p.m., at an uninhabited farm yard in the RM of Mount Hope a large wooden barn burned. This fire was not reported to the RCMP April 10. This fire was also deemed suspicious.
On April 9 at approximately 11:00 AM, the Raymore Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the RM of Touchwood. This fire occurred in an uninhabited farm yard. A house and an outbuilding were destroyed. Due to high winds at the time this fire spread quickly into the surrounding field and also jumped the road into the next field.
The Raymore fire crew had to work for several hours to bring this fire under control and prevent it from spreading. Punnichy RCMP are investigating this fire a well. Based on the initial investigation this fire was deemed suspicious and arson was suspected.
Punnichy RCMP are requesting that members of the public report any suspicious persons or vehicles they see, especially around uninhabited rural yards that have standing buildings. All of these suspicious fires occurred during daylight hours. Owners of such yards are encouraged to check their properties regularly.
