Yorkton Council approved a small increase in its refuse collection fee at its regular meeting of Yorkton Council Monday.
In the 2013 budget, residential refuse collection and the landfill are to operate on a self sufficient basis, explained City Director of Finance Lonnie Kaal.
The budget includes a 2.5 per cent increase in rates.
The fee is being increased from $8.70 per month to $8.95, or $3 per year, said Kaal.
The City's recycling fee "will remain at $5 (per month)," added Kaal, noting it has been at that rate since 2010.
Council was given a comparative listing of combined sanitation and recycling fees among a number of Saskatchewan cities. In Yorkton the total is $13.95 per month, which an administrative report to Council noted "is not out of line with fees charged by other cities."
The water bills will continue to show the garbage fee separate from the recycling fee.
