The second annual Yorkton Bicycle Rodeo was held Saturday, May 16th in the Gallagher Centre parking lot. The event an initiative of Yorkton's RCMP detachment, was aimed at grade three students, but open to kids of all ages. The family event taught practical skills of bike safety. The kids navigated a variety of on road test courses that reinforced the safety skills. Sponsors for the event included: Canadian Tire; Saskatchewan Prevention Institute; GX94 and the Fox radio; Sunrise Cycle Club; Parkland Victims Services; Yorkton Active Transportation Collaborative and the Yorkton Fire Dept. There was a plethora of prizes for all registrants and a tasty barbeque for everyone. The annual rodeo teaches basic bike safety skills to over 250 grade three students, covering all eight Yorkton elementary schools.

The local RCMP detachment donated a bike helmet and bike lock to all participants in the week long program. Canadian Tire, the major sponsor of the event donated four bicycles as prizes for participants. Two bicycles will be given away to winners of a colouring contest by the grade three students, while two were given as prizes at the Gallagher Centre. The Yorkton Active Transportation Collaborative also donated a bike to each school for a school raffle.
