Scheduled air service is returning to Yorkton.
Good Spirit Air, a locally-based aviation firm will launch a scheduled weekly service between Yorkton and Flin Flon April 7.
Michael Yaholnitsky, owner of GSA, said initially the service will be a limited one.
"Initially, it's only going to be going there one day a week, and returning one day a week," he said.
Yaholnitsky said the service, while limited, is a good fit for their operations which includes a pre-existing presence at both airports.
"We already have to move airplanes back and forth," he said, adding that by initiating scheduled passenger flights they "can provide a service," to residents of both communities.
Yaholnitsky said he thinks there are some natural connections which can be built on to make the service worthwhile.
As examples he said people from Flin Flon should find the option of flying into Yorkton for a
weekend interesting, adding in winter a few friends could fly down to watch the Bombers on a weekend they are visiting the Yorkton Terriers.
In the case of Yorkton people, Yaholnitsky said the ability to fly to Flin Flon for a week of fishing, or other outdoor activities should be a service many will appreciate.
"It's an opportunity to build connections," he said.
Yaholnitsky added if patrons show demand for additional flights. "we'll look at that, because we have hangars and facilities at both places already."
The service will be with an eight-passenger King AIr B200 which is pressurized and air conditioned.
The service will head to Flin Flon at 9 a.m. Mondays and the return flight will be Friday at 9 a.m. (both Saskatchewan times).
To launch the service Good Spirit Air is offering an introductory one way ticket price of $49, plus applicable fees, taxes and charges which bring the price up to $112.75. That price will be in place through April and May, with the flight having to be booked at time of purchase for a date prior to Aug. 1, 2014.
