SGI encourages vehicle owners who are permanently unable to drive for medical reasons to apply for a non-driver medical discount.
SGI provides a 20 per cent discount to individuals who are driving age and own vehicles, but do not meet the Canadian Medical Association's guidelines for driving. Because these individuals are unable to hold a driver's licence, they may be ineligible for the Safe Driver Recognition program, which offers a discount to drivers with a record of safe driving.
"We want to ensure this group of vehicle owners are not excluded from our discount program," Minister responsible for SGI June Draude said. "Through consultations with affected groups, we know there are many people who may qualify for this program. We want to ensure that individuals who are medically unable to drive can take advantage of the program."
Vehicle owners wishing to apply for the non-driver medical discount should call SGI's Medical Review Unit at 1-800-667-8015 (ext. 6176) or email email@example.com.For more information, visit the SGI website at www.sgi.sk.ca.
