Social Work Week

Social Services Minister June Draude proclaimed the week of March 17-23 as Social Work Week in Saskatchewan.

This year's theme is "Social Workers: Defending Social Programs for a Stronger Canada".

"Social Workers make a real difference in the lives of Saskatchewan's most vulnerable citizens," Draude said. "I want to thank them for their tireless dedication to Saskatchewan children, families, people with disabilities, seniors and people in need."

"Universal medical care is essential to the health of Canadians," Saskatchewan Association of Social Workers President Joanne Schenn said. "A similar commitment to social programs arguably plays an equal role in supporting the well-being of all Canadians."

Established in 1962, the Saskatchewan Association of Social Workers (SASW) has an active membership of more than 1,300 social workers who live and work in communities across the province.
